Leksikon Yu mitologije (2011)

Association Kulturanova co-produced the theatre play Lexicon of YU Mythology in co-production with NETA (New European Theater Action), directed by Oliver Frljić.

The premiere of the play was played at the National Theater of Montenegro on December 6, 2011.

The play is about Yugoslavia, the way it remained in the memories of those who lived in it and how much and what the modern generation who were born after its dissolution knows about Yugoslavia. These two questions are central to the form of the play. Initially, the authors viewed the topic from a political perspective - to what extent various policies succeeded in erasing collective memory, and in parallel creating new national identities. In the process of creating the play, the focus has been expanded. Since the Lexicon also addresses the phenomenon of Yugoslavian popular culture, the authors have "borrowed" a modern way of mythologizing through a gossip strategy.

Parallel alternative biographies of individual public figures have been created, which undermined stereotypes and the way in which people who defined the Yugoslavian cultural sphere are remembered. The play takes the form of a quiz, which instead of providing a comprehensive and consistent corpus of objective truth, reveals these parallel histories that are not included in official historiography. The quiz form is extremely theatrical and leaves plenty of space for debate, not only about Yugoslavia and the concepts that built its cultural identity but also about theater as a medium and how theater today, when it has adopted and reinterpreted almost all media formats, can relate according to its position in the changing media scene.

The executive producer of the Lexicon of YU Mythology is NETA (New European Theater Action), and the co-producers are theaters and festivals from 6 countries: National Theater of Montenegro, Festival Ex Ponto from Ljubljana, Istra National Theater from Pula, Kombetar Theater from Pristina, Little Drama Theater from Bitolj and Kulturanova from Novi Sad.

The play was directed by Oliver Frljić, the dramaturg is Jasna Žmak, the choreographer Rosana Hribar, the set designer is Borut Bucinel, the costume designer Sandra Dekanić, music is signed by Foltin (Branislav Nikolov, Pece Trajkovski, Goce Jovanoski, Marjan Stančić), the producer is Damir Domitrovič. The play stars Miha Nemec, Maja Nemec, Joana Popovska, Bajrush Mjaku, Gresa Pallaska, Miso Obradovic, Helena Minic and Ljuma Penov.
